If you are in your mid 30’s or older, you most likely know who Sister Wendy was. If you don’t know who she was, do yourself a favor and check out some of her YouTube clips.
Sister Wendy Beckett was a British Catholic nun who was a consecrated virgin and hermit. She allowed herself two hours per day to do work that would earn her living. She taught English and Latin for many years.
In the 1990’s, while she was speaking about art, she was discovered by a British documentary team. They asked if they could film her. Her great insight and direct approach to the study of fine art earned her a series on the BBC doing art history documentaries.
How I loved those documentaries! She was such an unlikely art critic, but I believe she was completely spot on in her evaluations and comments. I purchased two of her books, and I admit, I should look into acquiring more of her work.
Sister Wendy died on December 26, 2018. She was 88 years old.
