Not Even Trying to Hide

I feel like I’ve been cheating or something. The thing is I normally paint in alkyd, fast drying oil paint. I love that medium for so many reasons, but even with the semi quick drying time, it’s a slower process than water media.
Now, I really, really need to produce more work, and faster! So I’ve gone back to painting in acrylic. It has its good points – but it’s not my first love. I’m just finishing up my fourth acrylic painting and the work is moving much faster than my oil paintings. That’s a plus for the acrylics.
I did start an oil painting some weeks ago, just blocked in some areas and added a little interest, since then it’s been sitting against the wall looking forlorn and lonely. See, I know what I want to do with that painting, but I also know that it’s going to take an immense amount of work to accomplish. And that means many hours of work; not to mention changing out my brushes and palette from water to oil.
I pass by that painting several times every day. Walk right past it and pick up the acrylic paints. I feel a little guilty but I keep my mind on the work. Each time I pass by it, I feel like a cheating spouse who doesn’t even try to hide their infidelity.
Oh my, that’s no way to treat your first love!
