I Don't Think in Pink!

I can’t paint pink! Lord, I have tried….it just doesn’t work for me! I don’t know what it is, but every single time (!) I try to use pink or rose in a painting, it fights me until I take it out. Now, let me say, I do admire other artist’s work when they use pink. I’ve seen so many compositions where pink is a strong and important element in the work, and pink works for them. And it’s not that I don’t like the color, I do. Many people love pink. I have a few pink clothing items and I enjoy wearing them. My brain just won’t let me paint pink on a canvas!

I have two canvases I’m current working on that I wanted to make pink a component of the composition. It wasn’t working and I was getting frustrated, to put it mildly! Actually, I was beginning to doubt my artistic credibility. Then today, I made the decision to remove most of the pink and replace it with Indian Red. Wow!! I love it! I have a whole new attitude about these two canvases and my confidence is returning. These compositions are so much stronger now! I might just leave a hint of the Permanent Rose. Ha! Just laughing at the name Permanent Rose – nothing permanent about the rose as far as I’m concerned!
